Aspect prepared a detailed landscape and visual assessment and continued landscape design support, in relation to the development of over 2 million sq ft warehousing, 300 dwellings, public house, doctors surgery and a hub of B2 uses in a prominent location on the A1(M).
The site is located to the south of the Durham World Heritage Site, on greenfield land adjacent to Junction 61 of the A1(M). The proposals included a number of large footprint warehouses with ridge lines up to 20m above the existing ground levels.
Aspect worked closely with Durham County Council as part of the design team to ensure that the visibility of the proposals was managed and the development was set within an appropriate landscape setting. Planning permission was granted at Committee in February 2017. Aspect are now providing detailed landscape design support as part of the discharge of the Planning conditions. Work commenced on site in early 2018 with the initial enabling works.
