Giant, Sutton Courtenay Lane, Didcot

Project: Proposed storage and distribution development (Use Class B8)

Client: Diageo Pension Trust Ltd

Aspect prepared a detailed landscape and visual assessment in relation to the development of over 1 million sq ft warehousing in a sensitive location in South Oxfordshire.

The site comprises an area of brownfield land adjacent to the Didcot Power Station and just to the south of the village of Sutton Courtenay. The proposals for two large footprint units was met with strong local opposition and Aspect worked closely with the key stakeholders to develop an appropriate setting for the proposals that reduced the perceived scale and visibility of the built form. Aspect prepared a detailed LVIA that was supported by a number of photomontages, illustrating the proposals within the context of localised views and also longer distance views from the North Wessex Downs AONB, as well as detailed landform and soft landscape design. The scheme was granted planning permission in July 2015.
