Aspect Landscape Planning were appointed to undertake the landscape design input to support the reserved matters application for residential development of 150 residential units. The development was sensitive due to an existing golf course to the south of the scheme which we look to address the sensitive nature as part of the landscape approach through the design and levels arrangement within the SANG open space design. The project for Bellway Homes and was carried out between 2017-2021. Aspect coordinated between project consultants and the Client to ensure landscape factors such as Arboricultural and Ecological requirements were met. This was also to ensure we were maximizing biodiversity within the scheme alongside internal coordination from our Ecology team internally. Recreational and ecological enhancements were fed into the design with the inclusion of a play space and circular routes around the development to promote heath and wellbeing. Drainage features with the inclusion of swales and a new wildlife pond sit within the open space and are planted up to enhance habitat creation within the wildflower meadows. The project had been developed in phases with the SANG being developed initially to allow for development during the construction of the build form. Auditing of the development and monitoring of the open space design was carried out following requests from Bellway to ensure the success of ecological habitat creation and recreational amenity was provided to the required level.
